    Brandon,
Its actually really easy. Ive been buying precious metals online for the last 15 years. Basically you have to evaluate the reason why your are looking to invest and that will help decide what kind of gold to buy. I like bullion coins and not numismatic coins because their value is based solely on its metal content which is easier for me to understand vs. collectible value. I like American Gold Eagles because everyone wants them and they seem to be the easiest to get rid of when I sell. I would steer away from South African Kruger-Rands because they are a bit hard to get rid of. Ive done business with just about every online bullion dealer out there, but the best one is ProvidentMetals.com. They have the least expensive coins and bars, and the fastest shipping. I also really like the fact that, with them, I don’t have to place my order online, I can just call them. Their number is 877-429-8790. Ask for Jeremy. Hes really helpful.
You’ll have to write back and tell me how your first purchase went. Good luck!

Hi Brandon, There are a lot of ways to buy gold bullion. I purchase gold bullion but I don’t purchase US minted gold. I like buying privately minted gold and silver. The reason being is back in the early 1900′s, the government confiscated gold. A number of people today argue this point as it may or may not happen again, but who knows. My thoughts are better safe then sorry. I’ve been buying gold for the past 18 months and able to do so from a company that sells the metals on a savings plan. Here is the site,. If the government went back to confiscating gold, they would be unable to confiscate this gold as it is a collectable and privately minted. Also just last year, a store in Michigan begin accepting gold and silver bullion as a form of payment. But they were not accepting US minted gold and silver coins. This is a sign as to how it will be in the future which is why I buy privately minted gold and silver collectables, to avoid all of the headaches. Plus the metals are pure. Hope this helps.

Gold Bullion Coins are the best way to go. Eagles or Buffalo would probably suit you as a US resident as I believe they have certain tax and pension benefits attached to them, though being in the UK, I am no expert on the current tax legislation in America.

The below price comparison site for gold and silver, will let you get a feel for what is around on the market coin and bar wise. For the kind of money you are spending someone like GoldSilver.com would be able to offer eagles or buffalo at competitive premiums.
